Obituary

Michael J. “Hop” Hopperstad, 57, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, October 12, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born August 30, 1958 in Belvidere, IL, son of Robert and Patricia (Dyer) Hopperstad. He graduated from North Boone High School, class of 1976, and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree. Mike married Lisa Schoon in 2002. Mike was a lifelong farmer, and also was employed by Dean Foods in Chemung. He enjoyed playing basketball, sand volleyball and loved traveling. Mike adored his 3 granddaughters, and loved spending time with them.
Mike is loved and will be missed by his wife, Lisa; daughter, Rachel (Nick) Primeaux; granddaughters, Alex, Emma, Rikki; siblings, Joe (Roxanne) Hopperstad, Kelly (Mike) Holsker, Amy Hopperstad; mother-in-law, Kathryn Schoon; several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Alfred Schoon; and brother-in-law, Lee Schoon.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Dan Schenck officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to VNA Hospice of Rockford in Mike’s name.
