Obituary

Darlene M. Johnson, 97, of Blaine, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Darlene was born January 29, 1918 in Walworth, WI, daughter of Harry and Minnie (Erkfitz) Hoelzel. She graduated from Capron High School, Class of 1936. Darlene married Edward C. Johnson on July 23, 1939. Darlene worked at Admiral Corporation in Harvard for 30 years, and was the LeRoy Township tax assessor for many years. She was a devoted member of Blaine United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, and was a member of the Ladies Aide and a member of the Eastern Star. Darlene loved cooking, embroidering, and was known for organizing bake sales for Shadley Apartments Garden Club. She was a self-taught organ and accordion player, loved bingo, bowling, and card playing at the Keenage Center in Belvidere. Darlene was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Darlene is loved and missed by her children, Allan (Bette) Johnson of Poplar Grove, IL, Darrell (Karin) Johnson of The Villages, FL, Terrance (Linda) Johnson of Egg Harbor, WI, Deanna (David) Bainter of Belvidere, IL; grandchildren, Jay (Cindy) Johnson, Russell (Maggie) Johnson, Scott (Shelly) Johnson, Shirley Brown, Shelley Varga, Mark (Ginger) Johnson, Eric (Claudia) Johnson, Elizabeth (Dan) Eischen, Mary Newman, Christopher (Christine) Reynolds, Julie (Paul) Windisch; great-grandchildren, Ryan (Ellen) Johnson, Cody Johnson, Cory Johnson, Clara Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Megan Johnson, Katelyn Brown, Sydney Varga, Blake Varga, Sarah Eischen, Emily Eischen, Anna Eischen, Darian Newman, Brennen Newman, Madelyn Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Sofia Johnson, Catalina Johnson, Alivia Windisch, Carah Windisch, Brienne Windisch, Keagen Reynolds; brother, Elwin Hoelzel of Sun City West, AZ; sister, Vonnie Rae (Wayne) Wares of Poplar Grove, IL; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hoelzel of Belvidere, IL; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, parents, brothers Harold and Marvin Hoelzel, sisters Joyce Heller, Ethelyn Weaver and Vanda Jones.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Blaine United Methodist Church, 7200 Blaine Road, Poplar Grove, IL 61065 with Rev. Tom Hay officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m., until the time of service. Burial will take place at Blaine Cemetery.
