Gerald “Jerry” L. Knox, 84, of Belvidere, IL, went to be with the Lord, Monday, September 3, 2018. Born September 24, 1933 in Belvidere, IL the son of Ralph and Lillian (Schwedersky) Knox. Jerry was a graduate of Belvidere High School and served with the United States Army as a tank commander during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Velma Butler, on November 9, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL. Jerry was a railroad switchman, working and retiring after 25 years from Chicago Northwestern. After retirement, Jerry worked for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department as a bailiff for an additional 10 years. Fishing, gardening, and woodworking were just a few of his hobbies. He was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL and was also a member of the American Legion.
Jerry is loved and missed by his wife, Velma; children, Kevin Knox, Brenda Douglas; son-in-law Greg Anderson; daughter-in-law, Renee Knox; sister-in-laws Lois, Donna, and Carol Knox; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Knox; daughter, Diana Anderson; brothers, Ralph, David, and Phillip Knox; son-in-law Robert Douglas; and grandparents.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL with Rev. Roger Pollock officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL. Burial will be in Highland Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a charity to be named later.
