Obituary

Donald J. Shaw, 65, of Belvidere died April 11, 2022, at home. Born May 14, 1956, in Sycamore, son of Orson A. Jr. and Charlotte V. Shaw. Don was a Belvidere High School graduate, class of 1974, and a masterfully skilled machinist who left his mark on many businesses throughout his career. In his free time, Don loved to attend (and “host”) concerts, travel to various locations to enjoy the outdoors with his family and friends, as well as trips to the range to hone his shooting skills. Don was an avid, captivating storyteller, and an admirably loyal person with a personality simply too big for words.

Don is survived by; his brother, David J. (Elma) Shaw; sister, Carole Shaw Kinney; along with several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was loved, and will be missed dearly, by his stepdaughter Catherine (Travis) Hornbeck; Grandchildren Ulysses and Dahlia Hornbeck; stepson Mitchell Camp; and numerous lifelong friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents.

We will miss our times at Christmas when we would go to his Mother Charlotte’s house and exchange gifts. Kip and his Family were always there too ! Everyone ever knowing Don and having him in their life was surely lucky. But it is I who was truly blessed, knowing him his entire life and having a real friend the entire time. Although physically distant from each other for many years, that brought us closer together in real life. I love you and miss you. Thanks. No better brother could there have ever been.

Don was my cousin. I remember playing in his backyard on that spinning yard contraption that came with swing sets at the time! Don and his brother Dave and my sister Kris and I. We lost touch for the most part after growing up. But I still remember the times that we would see each other. I wish it had been more often! I would have liked to here some of those stories! He was a good soul.

To Don’s Family
So sorry to hear of Don’s passing. We had many good times hanging out and when he lived with Chuck and Steve Anderson at the house on Hurlbut. Even though I had not seen him for a while, I will miss our type A arguments about anything and everything if you know what I mean. I always won lol and he loved telling stories.
