Ann Chastain May Adkins 1937-2019

Ann Chastain May Adkins of Poplar Grove, Il and formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away on January 12, 2019 in Swedish American Hospital.  She was born August 23, 1937 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of Rev. Marcum Beeler and Elizabeth Lee (Hughes) May. She graduated from Valley High in 1955, Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1959 and the University of Kentucky class of 1960.  Ann taught both French and Chemistry over the years while raising her two children, volunteering for both her home church of Jeffersontown United Methodist Church and Red Bird Mission in eastern Kentucky.  In her community she volunteered with Jeffersontown Area Ministries.

Ann was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Ann was generous, with an at times wicked sense of humor.  Her strength both as a single mother and her battles with Breast Cancer were humbling.  She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.  A heartfelt “Thank You” to the nurses at Swedish American and St. Anne’s Center for caring for Ann with such kindness and generosity of spirit.

Ann is loved by her children, Elizabeth (Scott) Crane of Poplar Grove, IL, Kenneth Paul (Elena) Adkins of Glenside, PA; grandchildren, Shannon, Scotty, Samantha Crane, Shelley (Ahren) Swan, Kenny, Lloyd and Jesse Adkins, great-grandchildren, Susie and Lillie Swan; brother, Lloyd (June) May; sister, Susan Collins; many nieces and nephews.  Ann is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lee Frayser.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Jeffersontown United Methodist Church, 10219 Taylorsville, RD, Louisville, KY 40299 with Rev. Bob Howell and Ron Gaddie officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ann’s name may be directed to Jeffersontown United Methodist Church, 10219 Taylorville RD, Louisville, KY 40299 or Red Bird Mission, 70 Queendale Center, Beverly, KY 40299.
