Hi, I issued septic permits to Bill for over 20 years at the Health Dept. He was such a nice guy. He always had a joke for us...he even brought us deer sausage. He touched many lives and will be missed.

When I was growing up, I remember Bill being like a member of our family. Many times he and Billy (close to my age) would come to our home or we would head over to the pond and go fishing/swimming. I will never forget the hundreds (maybe as a child it seemed like hundreds) of chickens we processed at his house off Shattuck Road. It's been several years since I've seen Bill when I would come home to visit my family. Typically, we would run into him at a local breakfast diner. He always had a bright smile and a kind word. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, he will be truely missed.

When I was 14 years old I lived with my parents in the middle of Fruit Farm Rd S.E. of Belvidere and loved to squirrel hunt in the fall. Bill was our mailman and because of the rural aspects of my parents home, I would try to be at the mailbox when he delivered the mail. We would talk about hunting and firearms and I have fond memories of our encounters. Bill went squirrel hunting with me a couple of times across the road from my parents home on a neighbors property I had permission to hunt. He also took me on a trip to a woods on Marengo road that he was setting a record for number of squirrels collected with the fewest rounds expended. Years later he collected some seeds from an old apple tree my parents had and added it to the apple orchard he was growing. I got to see Bill again at a friends funeral about 10 years ago. I am saddened by the news of his passing, but he leaves me with many fond memories from what seems like a lifetime ago. My condolences, Stevenson Wylde
