Obituary

Russell K. Anderson, 90, of Belvidere, IL went to be with the Lord, Friday morning, December 9, 2016 at Crimson Pointe in Rockford. Born July 26, 1926 in Newman Grove, NE, he was the son of Walter and Olena (Nelson) Anderson. Russell was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, where he was stationed in the Pacific on the Naval aircraft carrier, USS Tyconderoga. He married the love of his life, Bernice Nelson on May 4, 1947 in Kirkland, IL. Russell was a farmer for all of his life, and the past president of the Farm Bureau. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, and was on the building committee during the planning for the new construction of the church. Russell loved snowmobiling, bowling, waterskiing, boating and traveling the world. He cherished the times he played poker with his farm and business fellows at the Wallem hangar at the Poplar Grove Airport.

He is loved and missed by his children, Linda (Ed Flanagan) Way, Larry (Libby Roth) Anderson, Dianne (John Drall) Onley, and Connie (Bob) Moore; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; 2 son-in-laws, Tom Way and Leland Onley; daughter-in-law, Debbie Anderson; brother, Orlie Anderson and sister-in-law, Juanita Anderson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his grandson, Grant, and his homecare helper, Lydia, who cared for Russ in his home until he went to Crimson Pointe, and also Crimson Pointe and Northern IL Hospice for their excellent and kind care of Russell.

I know Russell was devoted to his family, church, and community. I know his death leaves a void but I'm sure he passed his strengths onto his family and it will endure for generations. My sympathies to my cousins and their families.

A great man with a great family. I often hunted on his property and grew up with his son. My heart goes out to his family.

To Bridget and Troy, My heart hurt for you and the kids when I heard the sad news that Russ (AKA Papa Beep Beep ) had passed . Although he was not your neighbor for the past few years I missed seeing him driving up on his Gator with his smile and rosie cheeks ,prepared with suckers for the kids. Many times he would have the kids pile in with him and off they would go down to the pond. He enjoyed getting his Gator out and going done to the pond , way to close one time , Troy his grandson had to go down and get papa because he got a little to close to the edge and took a quick dip in the water Gator and all. He will be missed very much by my grand children and Pete and I will miss having him at family cook outs every year for him and Brianna a great daghter and Grant his grandson who we celebrated their birthdays togehter , He is home now and at piece with his sweet wife .
