Obituary

 

Richard E. “Dick” Cushman, 86, of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, March 23, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 26, 1929 in Belvidere, IL, son of Delbert and Dorothy (Atwood) Cushman. He graduated from Belvidere High School, Class of 1949, where he was part of the only undefeated football team that Belvidere ever had. Dick was proud to have served in the United States Army as part of the military police during the Korean War; he had received a commendation from Field Marshall Montgomery. He married the love of his life, Marlene Ulm on June 1, 1952 in Columbia, S.C. He was a union carpenter, Local 792, and had received his 60 year pin. Dick was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Belvidere. He was involved with the American Legion Post #77 and former member of the Belvidere Moose. Dick enjoyed golfing, gardening, and bowling. He was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and the LA Dodgers. Dick was a sports enthusiast who coached BYB and little league. He enjoyed playing cards with his granddaughter, Anna; and playing bridge at the Keenage Center with Marlene.

Dick is loved and will be missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Marlene; children, Daniel (Vicki) Cushman, Diane (Shirley Brooks) Cushman, Lisa (Tom) Hasting, and Lori (Sparkie) Cushman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Char) Cushman; nieces and nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Richard Michael.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Father Randy Wakitsch officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service. Cremation rites have taken place. My memory with him is watching grernbay packers play and I one some tickets on the radio to go to lambo field to bring the packers home and I gave them tickets to my step mom Diane and papa for them to go you will ever be iny heart
