Mrs. Judy C. Ehlen

Judy Carol Ehlen passed away peacefully on February 27, 2013 at her home in Santee, California. Judy Carol (Jensen) Ehlen was born April 11, 1942 in Belvidere, Illinois. She was the daughter of Karl and Carol (Morgan) Jensen. Judy was baptized as an infant and she was confirmed in her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Illinois in 1956. She received her education in Belvidere public schools and graduated from Belvidere High School in 1960. She worked at Green Giant in Belvidere and attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. Judy later continued her education at Christ College Irvine (now Concordia University Irvine) where she earned her teaching degree and then went on to teach kindergarten for several years at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in San Diego, California. On December 7, 1963 Judy was united in marriage to David W. Ehlen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Illinois. This marriage was blessed with two children, Ruth and David Jr. They made their home in Wichita Falls, Texas and Rockford, Illinois until 1972 when they chose to make Santee, California their home. Judy and David shared 49 years of marriage. They were partners in many successful businesses in San Diego County and Judy’s most favorite was getting to know everyone in Pine Valley while operating the Pine Valley Store. Judy was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church in La Mesa, California. She loved books and she was dedicated to developing a successful library at Christ Lutheran School for the students to use so they could have the best information at their fingertips. Before the Internet, she submitted a letter to the Missouri Synod with an idea to make the libraries at all the synod schools open to “sharing” books back and forth so the students would have access to more information. Judy also worked in the church office as a secretary to help out whenever needed. Judy touched and affected many different people’s lives. She was very involved in her community as a volunteer at the Santee Sheriff’s department making YANA (You Are Never Alone) phone calls to shut-ins living in Santee and Lakeside. She also volunteered at the Santee Friends of the Library and on election days you could find her volunteering at the local polling centers. She was an avid collector of post cards and she loved going to the San Diego Post Card Club meetings. Judy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends but above all else she loved being with her grandkids. Judy is survived by her husband, David Ehlen of Santee, California, daughter Ruth Ehlen of Colorado Springs, Colorado and son and daughter-in-law David and Michelle Ehlen Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Amanda Ehlen and Joshua Ehlen; brother Ron Jensen of Belvidere, Illinois; sister-in-law Anna Jensen of Poplar Grove, Illinois; nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Judy was much loved and will be greatly missed.
