Gilbert Bruce Turner, 77, of Belvidere, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born August 7, 1935 in Garden Prairie on the family farm; son of Allen and Mildred (Lampert) Turner. Married Mary Alice Schrader on September 16, 1955 in Garden Prairie. Member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. Worked as a foreman for the Boone County Highway Department, retiring in 1997. Owned and operated Turner’s Mowing Service for 45 years with Antonio Banuelos running the business for the past 3 years. Gilbert was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and you could always count on finding him at the Boone County Fair where he enjoyed competing in the garden tractor pulls.Survivors include his loving wife Mary Alice; daughter Diana (Steven) Johnson of Machesney Park; grandson Ryan (Emily) Johnson of New Lenox; sister Betty Wright; brothers Gary (Ann), Giles (Bunny); and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, son Bruce, and daughter Donna.

Funeral service 2 PM, Monday, January 21, 2013 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, with Rev. Muriel Morley Jahn, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, officiating. Visitation 2 to 4 PM, Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the funeral home. Cremation rites to be accorded.
