Eilene Ann Ruppert Scheff, age 91, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 after a short illness. Born in Peru, Illinois on January 13, 1924 to Clarence Ruppert and Lydia Ann Moellering, she was one of ten children.
Our Mother, Eilene met Albert Francis Scheff while roller-skating. The story goes he fell down and she picked him up. They were married on January 22, 1944. After WWII they began to build their own family of seven children. As a young couple, they moved from Peru to Cherry Valley, Illinois, following our father’s job as a textile machinist. They spent the rest of their lives in Cherry Valley until Albert’s passing on December 6, 1988. Theirs was a happy life, surrounded by family and friends, in a home almost entirely built by Albert.
Eilene was a devoted member of St. Rita Catholic Church for 58 years. She loved to tell jokes, go to garage sales and collect antiques, do puzzles, write letters to family members, and collect family photos. She was known for her love of dancing, especially at family weddings. She hosted the annual Easter egg hunt for her grandkids and was the creator of the family tradition of “Homemade Christmas”.
Eilene was preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia in 1951 and son, James in 2008. Eilene will be remembered as a kind woman with a great sense of humor by everyone she touched, including her last remaining sister, Dorothy Ruppert Koch of Ladd, Illinois.
Our mother is survived by daughters; Sandra Scheff of Irving, TX, Susan (Jeff) Rehberg, of Beaver Dam, WI, Sherry (Jerry) Kenney, of Belvidere, IL, and sons Jeff (Sharon) Scheff, of Blue Hill, ME, and Steven (Brenda) Scheff, of Delevan, WI. She was a grandmother to Aaron, Adam, Matt Rehberg, Kristi Kenney Jones, Timothy Kenney, Jacob Scheff, Samuel, Jeremiah, Henry, and Ana Marie Scheff. Great-grandmother to Logan and Titus Rehberg and Hannah and Sydney Eilene Jones.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at OSF Hospice and Comfort Keepers, Rockford.
