Obituary

Diane Marie Johnson, 69, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2015, at home with her loving husband by her side, after a courageous 6 year battle with breast cancer. She was born December 1, 1946 in Belvidere, the daughter of Patrick and Dorothy (Ohlsen) Stevens. Diane was a quiet, loving, and compassionate woman, who cherished and loved her family and friends with all her heart. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was a graduate of Belvidere High School, Class of 1964. She married her high school sweetheart Jinx (Jean) Johnson on July 10, 1965 in Belvidere. She was employed for 12 years at Allstate Insurance, retiring in 2001. After retirement, she and Jinx enjoyed spending winters together in Arizona, enjoying the warmth, beauty, and sunshine. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Belvidere, and was a faith filled woman, who deeply loved her Lord. She was an avid reader, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and was a master at the daily crossword puzzle. She found pleasure in watching her countless varieties of birds and tending to her flower gardens during the summertime. She centered her entire life around loving and caring for her family. She mostly enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband of 50 years, especially their winters together in Arizona. And, she loved the color pink!

She is survived by her loving husband, Jinx; two daughters, Angela (Todd) Kollbaum of Concordia, MO and Sarah (Shawn) Harper of Belvidere; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Clarissa), Jordan (Stephanie), Emily, Ryan and Abigail Kollbaum of Concordia, MO, and Ryley and Lukas Harper of Belvidere; two sisters, Jennifer (Brian) Schewe of Machesney Park and Denise (Mark) Lorenz of Lakeside, CA; brother, Dale Stevens of Belvidere; special nieces, Blaine, Hannah and Tessa Cornelius; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends, Sue, Bonnie, Kris, Carol Jean, and Mare. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Matt and Emma Ohlsen; two sisters, Vicky Lynn Stevens and Deborah Cornelius; and brother-in-law, Scott Cornelius.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Korkmaz, Julie Carlson, Lisa Bruno, Megan Zimmerlee (“The Megan”), her special valet, Andrew, and everyone at the OSF Center for Cancer Care. Your love, compassion and special care during her journey will never be forgotten. You will remain in her heart forever!

Please accept my sincere condolences. In difficult times like these, a scripture that has brought me comfort is Revelation 21:3,4. I hope it brings you comfort as well. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in all the happy memories you have with you dear loved one.

I am so sorry I will not be able to make the visitation.. Diane was a very special lady to all she knew here at the Cancer Center and will be greatly missed! She always had a smile even though you new she did not feel well at all. Jynx, I hope that in the coming days you will find peace in all the memories you have of being married to such a classy and well liked lady. Love you both and take care!

Deepest sympathy to Diane's families. The memory of your loved one will always be with you; just look into each others eyes. Thru the years our paths would often cross at church a ball field, fair time...A beautiful lady, Diane to have known. May the Holy Spirit comfort and give you peace. Jinx & girls, You will be in our prayers as you have such a great loss. God is close to the brokenhearted, though. I remember many fun moments with Diane!! Was very touched when Diane & Jinx coming into Chicago for our 2nd child's wedding. She was always so easy to talk to. God's grace to you all.
