Obituary
Shelby Jean Austin, 66, of Belvidere, IL, died peacefully January 16, 2022, in Rockford, IL. She was born January 9, 1956, in Belvidere, daughter to Merle and Helen (Rubeck) Cummings. After attending Belvidere High School, Shelby worked as a waitress at Gloria’s diner and Holiday family restaurant for many years. She would always brighten the days of her customers with her warm smile and friendly nature. Growing up, she loved to fish with her family at “The Pond.” As a teenager, Shelby was an avid roller skater known as, “Shelby The Great.” She was a lifetime member of ILC and enjoyed working on bulletins and taking care of the church. As an adult, Shelby loved traveling to Tennessee with her family and enjoyed drives through the beautiful mountains of Cades Cove. She was proud of her grandchildren, loved her family very much. She spoke every day to her sisters and held a special bond with them. She was well loved by all and always displayed a kindhearted personality and a dedication to seeing the best in people.
Shelby will be missed by her son, Shane (Jackie Mattoon) L. Myers; sisters, Marilyn Hunt, Linda Hicks, Nita Long and Connie (Ron) Bone; grandchildren, Dylan (Caitlin) Alyson Myers; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifetime best friends, Cindy Foster and Julie Follis. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Myers; parents; and sister, Janet Woliver.
A funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL 61008. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Keith Richard will officiate. Burial at Highland Garden of Memories. A luncheon will be provided back at the church at the fellowship hall following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
