Robert J. “Bob” Fill, 88, formerly of Rockford died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016 in Loganville, GA. Born December 12, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Lester C. and Evelyn (Jarvis) Fill. Bob attended Belvidere, Illinois High School, and graduated with the class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. On January 19, 1957 he married Carla M. Ohman in Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois. He retired from Eagle Foods in 1989 after a long career as a grocery store manager.
Bob was a member of Brooke Road united Methodist Church in Rockford, where he served as Head Usher, and member of the Trustees Committee, Staff Parish Committee, Historical Committee and the Christmas Crew. He was a life member of the Oregon V.F.W., former member of the Methodist Mixed Bowling League, and former Boy Scout leader and Unit Commissioner. Bob was an avid golfer and fisherman and crafter of fishing lures.
He is survived by his daughter and daughter in-law, Julie A. Arms Meeks and Vanessa C. Meeks of Atlanta, GA; son, James R. Fill of Rockford, IL; granddaughter, Morgan J. East of Long Beach, CA; and extended family members. Bob is predeceased by his parents and his wife, Carla.
