Obituary

Rockford, IL

Richard “Dick” Eugene Myers, 71, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Born April 10, 1947 in Freeport, IL, son of Ellis and Ethel (Freeman) Myers. He graduated from Polo Community high school and then went on to work at Chrysler for 30 years. Dick was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed collecting miniature antique tractors and Budweiser beer steins. He was a very helpful and giving person overall. He also enjoyed breakfast with family and friends, his Chrysler buddies, and spending time at the VFW just hanging out. Dick was a valuable member of his family, keeping them connected with phone calls and visits. This included reaching out to even extended members of the family. He was very well known for his chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, some may even say he was famous for it, and he never would miss a family reunion.

Dick is loved and missed by his sister, Jane Wohrley of Dixon; brother, James Myers of Rockford; nieces and nephews, Lisa Apple of Bloomington, Julie (Doug) Harms of Dixon, Jerry (Melissa) Mehrens of Dixon, Clayton Myers of Rockford, Samuel Myers of Rockford, Sue Myers of Lanark, Jaci (Bill) Kousoulas of Sycamore, Amy Milby of Rock Falls, Virginia (Tom) Brunner of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arnold Myers; sister Carol Myers; and nephew Tom Myers.

Rich and my late husband were great friends. He drove our Oliver tractor whenever he got the chance. He called it Uncle Oliver. When he was in school he gave me books to read for him and do his book reports. He was a very nice guy.

My heart is with my extended family during this time. I mainly saw Dick at family reunions, and I have fond memories of him. I know his friendship and caring meant a lot to my parents especially my dad, Doug Raney, his cousin. He will be missed.
