Joanne M. Forys

Obituary

Joanne M. Forys, 76, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away peacefully, May 30, 2019 in Poplar Grove, IL.  She was born on June 14, 1942 to Thaddeus and Victoria (Patronski) Brodkowicz in Chicago, IL. Joanne married the love of her life, Thomas Forys, on August 2, 1971.

Joanne had a heart of gold, loved her family, friends and her pets. Through the years, she and her husband Tom owned and trained Siberian Huskies and Golden Retrievers.  Joanne was very active in her community and was involved in the neighborhood bible study and two bunco groups.  She was a former President of the Vintage Aero Association, board member and docent of the Poplar Grove Wings and Wheels Museum, and a current member of EAA Chapter 1414.  She was always willing to lend a hand or talk to the visitors of the museum.

She loved to read and gardening was also a passion of hers.  She had an eclectic collection but focused mostly on a country motif.  Joanne had a soft spot in her heart for veterans and animals and generously donated to many charities.

Flying was another passion of hers and living at Poplar Grove Airport was a dream come true.  For many years, she and her pilot husband Tom flew their V-tail Bonanza around the country.  In 1979, they acquired a PT-17 Stearman and won many competitions with it through the years and even flew it to the Bahamas.

Those of us who were privileged to have known Joanne will never forget her.

Joanne is loved and will be missed by her children, Steven (Erica) Lafin, Suzanne Lafin, Donna Forys, Phillip Forys, Harry (Rhonda) Forys, Stephen Forys, and Deborah Forys; and grandchildren, Cameron Forys and Jennifer Forys.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; and her parents, Thaddeus and Victoria.

I am very sorry the loss of your mother. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our Heavenly Father return our dear loved ones.

I am very sorry the loss of your mother. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one in death, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our Heavenly Father return our dear loved ones to us. Psalm 34:18,19 assures us that “Jehovah is close to the broken-hearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit.” He will give you all the comfort you need during this difficult time. Please accept my condolences.

We met Tom and Joanne 35 years ago when we joined Vintage Aero and got to know them better when we all moved to the Poplar Grove Airport. Tom and Joanne were always so generous with their time, with Joanne always serving at EAA and Museum events through the years. Joanne loved learning about the Lord in our weekly Bel Air ladies’ Bible study and added lots to our discussions. You’ll be dearly missed, Joanne! Love, Tom and Joan Dietrich (now in Sebastian, FL)

It is so difficult to say good-bye to a wonderful old friend. She was always kind, generous and full of fun. We know she will be flying in the front seat again with Tom, the love of her life and looking down on her loved ones and smiling.
she will be truly missed.

Joanne was one of the kindest, gentlest people I have ever known. No matter what was going on in her life, she was always pleasant and cheerful, with a smile on her beautiful face. From the moment we met, she and I loved to talk about and admire each other’s dogs. I was always so happy to see her at bunco and at museum events. Greg and I will miss you, Joanne, but we will never forget you.

I always felt a warmth and love whenever I was around her. I loved hugging her, (she was the best!) smelling her many lovely perfumes. I met Joanne and Tom many years ago in Stearman flying circles, and my husband Bill met them when he started flying at Poplar Grove. They welcomed each of us into their lives, bringing joy to all. She will be missed very much, as Tom has been and always will be missed.

Joanne was an exceptionally kind lady who blessed many with her laughter, generosity and friendship. She enjoyed talking with school children about her passion for flying and especially the Stearman which was truly a part of the family. We will miss her wisdom and compassion. Fly with Tom and the angels dear friend.
Love and prayers, Celia and Mark
