Donald E. Streit, 88, of Garden Prairie, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, January 1, 2021. Donald was born July 17, 1932 in Alden, IL, the son of Edward and Dorothy (Smith) Streit. Donald married Darlene (Dummer) Gorham on November 23, 1968 at First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL. Donald proudly served our country with the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1957. Donald was a mill rite for Sundstrand Aviation for 41 years. Don was a member and past president of the Prairie Riders Snowmobile Club, member of the VFW, American Legion, Belvidere Moose Lodge and the Northern Illinois Vintage Tractor Association. Don was passionate about snowmobiling, working in his garages and taking care of the neighborhood lawns. Donald cherished spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. He made his spiritual home at First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL. He will be missed by all.
He is loved and missed by his wife, Darlene; children, Randy, Raymond, Ricky, Rodney Streit, Judy Lamping, Jim (Cindy) Gorham, Cindy (Bill) Hathaway; grandchildren, Zach (Dena) Lamping, Dena Gates, Tanya (Brad) Surdick, James (Jeni) Gorham, Tyler (Samantha) Hathaway, Kaelyn Hathaway; great-grandchildren, Aaron (Alexis) Lamping, Alyssa Lamping, Connor and Andrew Gates, Kai and Dex Surdick; brothers, Edward (Lois) Streit, Ronald Streit; sister-in-law, Dorothy Degner; brothers-in-law, Wade (Sandra) Dummer, Mike Dummer as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Fidder; sister-in-law, Patricia Streit, brothers-in-law, Edward Fidder, Wayne Dummer, Robert Dummer, Elwyn Degner and son-in-law, Gary Lamping.
