Obituary

David E. Bressler, 66, of Cherry Valley, IL, passed away to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on January 18, 2018, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL. David was born May 15, 1951, in Fairbury, IL, the son of Horace E. and Doris I. (Rundlett) Bressler. He married his sweetheart, Rebecca Nelson, January 3, 1981 at Flora Community Church, Kirkland, IL. David earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and most recently was employed as an elementary school teacher for Faith Tabernacle Christian School in Rockford.

David’s interests included photography, bird watching, bike riding, walking and outdoor activities. He was a member of Samuelson Road Church Of The Nazarene, involved in the Children Ministries as a puppeteer and was known and loved by the children as Bernie the dog. David suffered a debilitating illness that left him handicapped in 2002. After this, he continued to inspire and encourage people through his photography, inspirational e-mails and positive attitude. David loved to spend time with his grandkids and has taken hundreds of photos of their energetic activities.

David was loved and will be missed by his wife, Rebecca; sons, Charles E. (Shelby Hulett) Bressler and Andrew N. Bressler; sisters, Diane (Jim) Dawson and Chris Weingard, and brother, Steven (Rhonda) Bressler; grandchildren, Austin, Kayla and Hailey Bressler; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wonderful extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Bressler family has been like family to us. We had the honor to meet Mr. Bressler in person and what an inspiring man of God he was. If someone knew about hard times and struggles that was him but never once I heard that he complained about it. Instead he took months to write his “Letters from a wheelchair” e-mails to praise God and still witness to those willing to hear the good news. I was thrilled when he agreed to come to Sam. Rd. Church of the Nazarene to share his ministry with us, what a blessing that night was. To Becky, Charlie and his family and Andrew goes our heart. You are very special to us and we pray to the Father so He may comfort you in this difficult times. We love you!!

Our sympathy to the whole family. Having read one of David’s newsletters, we could feel his love of the Lord and of nature. His writing talents, along with his life truly represented his trust in the Lord. May the good memories you have of him give you comfort every day.

So sorry for your loss….He is home. We are all only passing through this life on our way home. David’s time on earth was a blessing to everyone who knew him. He was an inspiration and his life is a testimony that will last an eternity. He is now embraced in the arms of God and with many friends that have gone before…dad, mom, Norman, Wanda, and many others. We are sad, but they are rejoicing with him. Love and prayers to all of you.
