Every time became to buy a bottle of concentrated window cleaner, or sand paper, or some small handy gadget. He was Such a bright spot during that lonely & devastated time. May God keep you near & dear my friend. May you have all the window cleaner you need in heaven. We are officially Put if Cases down here thatwe used in our car reservoirs!! My heart breaks to hear of Dans passing. He was so funny and loving. Every time I go over speed bumps he comes to my mind. His sense of humor just warmed my heart. I last saw him at a Houston Astros Spring Training game in Kissimmee Florida. We sat together and talked awhile. I will miss him. 😞

Zoo was a delight to know. He was a man who loved life and shared his joy with others. I met him thru Coon Creek Casters several years ago. I was lucky enough to see him a couple of weeks when he was in the hospital and even with the feeding tube in, he was still full of funny stories. Sorry for his loss. My name is Larry Mason. I am a retired IL State Police Special Agent and I worked with Dan as a then young IL State Trooper. I remember one funny incident I had with Dan. I was working as a narcotics detective for ISP then out of the Rockford office. I was going home on Rte 20 near Garden Prairie, IL when I drove by Dan with a motorist pulled over. I see him outside his squad talking to someone, There is another person seated in the back of the motorists car and there is a six pack of beer on the squad roof. I asked if he needed any help and he motioned me on. I got about 3 miles away when I hear Dan call for a backup so I beat feet back to his location. When I get there nothing has changed, he is still standing there talking to the motorist near his squad car. I ask what is wrong. Dan said the passenger in the back seat has a snake, he dd not want to go near it. I said no big deal, I will handle it. I walk up to the car and I see the passenger in the back seat with a blanket wrapped around him (winter time) and a large wicker basket in the back seat with him. I tap on the window to get his attention when this huge snake head raises up alongside the passenger window and scares the crap out of me. I jumped back and did not know whether to shoot it or what. Now I saw why Dan did not really want to approach the car. The passenger had an approximate 18 foot boa or python (not sure which) under the blanket wrapped around his body to keep it warm. From what Dan told me later, he took the drunk driver and the snake to the Boone County drunk tank. On that job, you never knew what to expect from day to day. While I have not seen Dan in quite a while, I send my condolences and prayers to his family. Dan was a good man.

I have so many memories about Dan! He was like an Uncle to me, Dan and my Dad Richard Stewart started working together, 40 plus years ago.
One of my favorite memories is when I was very little and Dan can down our chimney as Santa! Even though I was very young it stayed with me because that was so special!
Another thing I will always remember is his humor!
Thank you Dan for being my Dad’s ‘Partner in Crime’ on the toll road and life.
Rest in Peace

Good ol’ Zoo – what a character!

I had the pleasure to take care of Zoo. We both had the same birth-date. We made an immediate bond. He was strong willed and determined to live his life, his way. My heart goes out to the family and Jerri.
