Celestia A. Matheson, 90, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home in Belvidere on September 6, 2018. Born August 20, 1928, the daughter of George and Alice (Tobyne) Fitch. Celestia graduated from Belvidere High School in 1946.
Celestia married her sweetheart, Lawrence Sill Matheson September 8, 1946 in Belvidere. She was a seamstress at Vera’s Bridal for many years. First Baptist Church meant a tremendous amount to her and was a life long member. Celestia loved to sew, loved being with her family, enjoyed fellowship with her friends and was an active member of The County Line Grange. She was also a member of Ada Sterns Fellowship.
Celestia is loved and will be dearly missed by her sons, David (Carol) and Duane (June) Matheson; daughters, Jackie Murry, Jo Ellen Coleman and Marilyn Matheson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Fitch; six grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren and one great- great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; son, Dan Matheson; and son- in – law, Ken Coleman.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 14, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL, with a Grange Service at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, September 15 at family cemetery. A Welcome Home Celebration will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 15 at First Baptist Church, 1255 W. Jackson St, Belvidere, IL 61008. Pastor Rex Rogers will officiate.
